Young cricketer Jamie Keeler has won his battle with cancer and now he’s ready to stride back onto the field in Sibton Park colours.

Keeler missed the whole of last season after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia almost exactly a year ago.

He spent almost three months in hospital and came through a gruelling programme of chemotherapy before starting his recovery.

But doctors were always confident he’d pull through and they subsequently told Keeler he was in remission and didn’t need a bone marrow transplant.

The 22-year-old said: "It’s humbling and puts things completely into context.

"It’s not that I didn’t know my family and friends were important but this really reiterates your mortality.

"I’m not so worried any more about work and earning money, it’s the simple things which are important.

"The thing I’m really looking forward to is the sun, being out on the cricket field for five or six hours. I just want to get out there.

"I’m not too worried about my performances and don’t think much is expected of me."
