Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley on the FA Cup tie against Aylesbury United

Folkestone Invicta are gearing up for an FA Cup tie which could change the complexion of their whole season.

Saturday’s third qualifying round tie against Aylesbury United at the Fullicks Stadium is worth £7,500 to the winners and that sort of money would ease the finanical pressure on Invicta later in the season.

They’ve already banked £7,500 for knocking out Greenwich Borough and Tooting & Mitcham and manager Neil Cugley, who also sits on the board of directors, knows exactly what it would mean to win again this weekend.

He said: "I can’t lie, it’s massive because of the money. It’s such a lot of money to try to raise.

"Yes, there’s the glory at the end of it, hopefully to get to the first round but it does help a club like Folkestone, big time, if we can get another lot of money paid in to the bank. It makes things so much easier.

"We’ve already raised £7,500 and had good gates so that’s made us money, so it’s been good already. Hopefully, we can keep it going.

"It means you’re not having meetings in January and February to see how many weeks you’ve got left of the season. You don’t have those meetings, so it’s a big difference.

"We’re not a bank-rolled club so we work hard to get the money in. To get that sort of money, you’d have to sell a player every year.

"I’d still like to bring another player in. If we win on Saturday, I can go to the next board meeting and it strengthens my hand."

Folkestone haven’t reached the fourth qualifying round since 2007-08 but they start this tie as favourites against an Aylesbury side who play in Evo-Stik South East, one division lower in the pyramid.

Cugley said: "I’m not kidding myself, it’s a great draw for us.

"They won’t come here and lie down but to be at home against a team lower, hopefully the fans will get behind us. They can be a big help in these sort of games and make it a good day for the club.

"We’ve had them watched and we treat everybody the same. We’re respectful of other teams and we’ll go through what their strengths are.

"The FA Cup is the best competition in the world. There will be one club that does well from our league or around this area, so let’s hope it’s us."

Kieron McCann returns to the squad while Ian Draycott could be fit enough for the bench.
