Sibton Park Cricket Club are searching for a new temporary home because their flood-hit ground will be out of action for the first few weeks of the season.

The club is based in Lyminge, just north of Folkestone and Hythe.

Flood waters finally receded two weeks ago but the Park playing surface remains saturated and is nowhere near fit for cricket.

The new Kent League season begins on May 10 and the 1st XI are due to host Tunbridge Wells but that game will have to be played elsewhere.

Sibton Park chairman Tim Smith said: "We’ll have to try to find somewhere else. We’ve made enquiries at various local clubs but we haven’t heard anything back.

"When the floods came, they really came. The (surface) water’s all gone now but the drains are up to the top."

Park were awarded £1,911.20 of National Lottery money from Sport England’s flood relief fund to repair the wicket, outfield and damaged nets.

The club will use that money to infill a large trench dug to help course the water away, repair the flooded pumping system and pay for re-seeding work.
