A shop worker has been seriously hurt in a terrifying knifepoint robbery at a store in Gravesend today.

The employee at Tasnim General Store, in Bath Street, suffered a head injury during the "cowardly" attack this morning.

It is understood four black men - wearing black clothing and with nets covering their faces - entered the shop at about 9am.

Police said they pushed the victim out of sight of the security camera before threatening him and forcing him to give them his own phone and wallet.

Another worker at the store said the man was "seriously injured and he's really shaken up".

He added: "I couldn't believe they'd just come in like that, with all the security cameras we have up as well. It's unbelievable."

Officers were called at 9.23am, when it was reported the staff member had been threatened with what is believed to have been a knife.

DC Martin Carter, from Kent Police, appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

He said: "This was a cowardly attack on a local business. The offenders were brazen enough to do this in broad daylight in a busy part of the town and it is lucky nobody was more seriously hurt."

Anyone with information is asked to phone 101, quoting 20-0310, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
