Now that’s a blast from the past daddy-o - a hip new diner that is off the hook and open to all cats and chicks.

With classic red leather booths, black and white tiled floor, waitresses with poodle skirts, a gas pump in the corner and a Buick on the wall, Hot Rods Diner is on High Street, Northfleet.

The neat joint was put together by big daddy Ian Gay, with children Danielle and Sam along with friend and head chef Peter Gurr.

Danielle said: “It was a collaboration between all of us but my dad has always wanted to open a diner since he was younger. We only opened on Sunday but we’ve been really busy.”

The menu includes burgers, sausages, chicken and pasta as well as classic breakfasts all served in big American-style portions.

It was opened by seriously ill Stacey Mowle, a seven-year-old of Trafalgar Road, Gravesend, diagnosed with neuroblastoma three years ago.

Showing her usual courageous spirit, Stacey was joined by dad Warren, mum Samantha, and brother Jake.

The diner has collections to help raise cash for Stacey who needs about £500,000 for treatment not available in the UK.

On Friday she was at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey undergoing scans to see whether her cancer had spread any further.

She has been suffering infections resulting in weekly blood and platelet transfusions.

The family is understood to be discussing with doctors on what to do next to treat her condition when the results come through.
