Rapper Chipmunk set to play at new Gravesend club

A nightclub is opening in Gravesend just months after another closed down.
CCRooms is due to open next month in the old Karma nightclub in Gravesend High Street, creating 30 jobs.
Rappers Chipmunk and Wretch 32 are just two of the performers expected at the club this year.
Manager Kuwayne Cain is hoping people who live locally will apply for the posts he is now trying to fill, including bar and promotional staff, security and doormen.

Karma opened in March 2012 with appearances from the likes of actor Danny Dyer and Joey Essex, from The Only Way is Essex. But in the November the power was cut off after a final notice from EDF appeared in the window demanding more than £7,000. Club boss Kevin Pearton was evicted by landlord Mac Cheema in a row over unpaid rent and other bills.

Mr Cain, 39, from Swanscombe, said: “We’re bringing London’s quality and atmosphere to Gravesend, but without the London prices. I want to encourage people to come back to Gravesend, give the town a chance and hopefully we can change a few perspectives.
“With the Heritage Quarter and Paramount Park developments, this area is soon going to be the place to come out and I want to reassure people who maybe haven’t felt overly safe in Gravesend before, that I come from a security background and it will be safe.”
There will be three rooms set over three floors, which will hold around 800 people.
The main room, playing R’n’B and house music, and a VIP room will open every weekend. The third room can either be used as part of the main club or divided off for performers or private parties.
Opening night is Friday, June 28. You can get in for free by registering as a member at www.ccsnightclub.com
