Accident involving eight cars on A2 at Gravesend causes two lanes to close and traffic to slow

A four-car pile up caused two lanes to close and slow moving traffic on the A2 this morning.

It is believed the incident, which took place between the Gravesend East and A227 turn off, going London-bound, took place just after 8am today.

People were taken to hospital after the crash but it is believed no one sustained serious injuries.

A variation of vehicles were caught up in the accident including a van that was left pointing in the opposite direction of traffic and a people carrier stranded on the hard shoulder.

It is believed that lanes one and four were temporarily out of action as result, but have now re-opened.

Kent Highways called the incident “severe” on its web site and told people to prepare for slow moving traffic, with delays heading past Cobham services.

Police and paramedics both attended the scene.
