Police appeal as man suffers life-threatening injuries in crash on A2 near Bean and Bluewater

A van driver is fighting for his life after crashing into a stationary car on the A2.

The accident happened at 1pm yesterday on the London-bound sliproad for Bean and Bluewater.

The white Vauxhall Astra van crashed into a grey Toyota Avensis which was in stationary traffic. The Toyota then shunted into a red Fiat 500 in front.

The driver of the Astra, a man in his 60s, was taken to King's College Hospital in London with life-threatening injuries.

The two people in the Toyota were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and the Fiat driver was unhurt.

The road was closed for several hours while crash investigators looked into the circumstances.

Police from the serious collision investigation unit have now launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
