An artist was so moved by the kindness shown to him by a trader he drew a portrait of him – and handed it over as a present.

The surprised shop owner was James Munns, who runs a picture-framing, art and craft business in Windmill Street, Gravesend.

It was artist Jay Pritchard’s way of saying thank you after Mr Munns gave him a professional portfolio case on a rainy day to protect drawing paper he had bought in the shop.

“It was worth some £50 but he didn’t take any money for it,” said Mr Pritchard. “So I drew a portrait of him based on some photos I took and gave it as a present.”

Mr Pritchard, of Riverview Park, Gravesend, who has so far completed 160 portraits of famous people, said: “He was really surprised. It was a gesture of thanks for his generosity.”
