Gravesend attack victim 'branded' with a Gucci belt buckle

A victim of a vicious street attack was hit so hard on the head with a designer belt, he was left marked by the distinctive buckle.

The 23-year-old was left with what looks like a large G on the back of his head as a result of the attack. He believes he was struck with a Gucci belt.

He and his 16-year-old nephew suffered severe injuries during the assault, which involved about 12 men.

The pair, who wish to remain anonymous, were assaulted in Pelham Road, Gravesend, on Saturday, March 10, near Bronte School between 9pm and 9.30pm as they walked home from the town’s train station.

They have described the gang of attackers as between 17 and 21, with south eastern European accents, associated with the Balkans region.

The violent incident saw both victims hit, kicked and beaten with belts.

The older of the two, who passed out during the attack, said: “We turned around and they were right behind us.

“The three at the front already had their belts out. They were big designer belts, and at least one of them was Gucci.

“I didn’t see them take them off, but they had them there, ready and waiting.

“They knew what they were doing.”

The 16-year-old was wearing a navy blue Moncler coat, and was told the assault would not stop until it was handed over.

The jackets are, in some cases, worth more than £1,000, and their distinctive branding makes them easily identifiable.

He was also robbed of £300 and a distinctive red iPhone 8.

Two ambulances took the victims to Darent Valley Hospital. After experiencing some heavy blows to the head, the older of the two has suffered confusion and memory loss.

He was sent home from work on his first day back due to the severity of his symptoms, which are steadily improving.

Initially, six men started the assault, but as the 16-year-old ran towards Perry Street, around six more blocked his path.

Police spokesman James Walker said: “Officers are still investigating the circumstances and no arrests have been made.

“However, we now understand there were two victims and not one.

“One of these two victims has reported being robbed.”
