Black BMW found on bank of River Thames near Gordon Promenade East in Gravesend

There are many things you can see washed up on the banks of the River Thames, but a BMW saloon is certainly one to make you double-take.

The car was spotted parked half submerged in water, early on Sunday off Gordon Promenade East in Gravesend.

A passer-by snapped the surreal incident and it quickly started doing the rounds on Facebook and Twitter.

No one knows exactly how the flash looking motor ended up in such a position but the driver looks set to be left with a hefty repair bill.

Police arrived at the scene just after 5am and liaised with the RNLI.

The car was eventually towed off the bank by the owner.

No one suffered any injuries from the incident and it is not believed the driver was in the car when police arrived. Officers are making inquiries to find out the circumstances surrounding the incident.
