Police have today confirmed a body found in the River Thames at Gravesend is that of missing Nathan Lane.

The body was found in the river near West Street at just before 4.30pm last Wednesday.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious and a report has been prepared for the coroner.

The 28 year old, of Empress Road in Gravesend, had been reported missing in the river on July 14.

Nathan dived into the water when a young girl – believed to be a 12-year-old called Maria – got into trouble in the water and tried to save her.

On Saturday, family and friends released balloons and a wreath in his memory.

There was also a minute's silence at Party on the Prom, conducted by Area Dean Sue Brewer.
