Consultation opens on plan to install £180,000, two-mile cycle route in Gravesend

A signed cycle route linking Gravesend station with the Cyclopark is on the table.

A consultation on the proposed £180,000 two-mile route opened on Monday.

Kent County Council hopes its plans to use residential roads will provide a quieter route for less experienced cyclists seeking an alternative to using the existing lane on the busy A227 Wrotham Road.

The project is being paid for thanks to Local Growth Fund money, allocated by the South East Local Enterprise Partnership.

Gravesend railway station’s £1 million cycle hub, with room for 280 bikes, opened in 2016.

While the gleaming glass building was welcomed by commuters and station staff some users did voice concerns about its accessibility.

The consultation will run until Sunday, March 4, and there will be two public events at the Civic Centre, Windmill Street, from 2pm to 7pm on Monday, February 12, and at the Cyclopark from 10am to 4pm on Thursday, February 15.
