Delivery driver Stefan Krok from Gravesend almost binned his £300,000 winning scratch card

A delivery driver was over the moon after winning £300,000 on a lottery scratch card – but admitted he almost threw the winning ticket in the bin.

Stefan Krok, 30, who lives with his mum in Gravesend, was sitting in his van waiting to go to an evening delivery when he scratched his way to the big time on National Lottery Bingo Blue card.

Thinking he had lost he went to chuck it away, but had a change of heart at the last minute.

Mr Krok could not believe his eyes when he checked for the final time.

He said: “I nearly binned the scratch card but thankfully I had another look at the winning patterns and saw mine revealed the £300,000 top prize.

“It was an unbelievable moment, this sort of thing doesn’t happen to me so I didn’t really know how to react and because it was late, I couldn’t even call Camelot to make sure it really was true.

Pocket

“I had to finish up the deliveries with the £300,000 winning scratch card safely tucked in my pocket, it was the most nerve-racking evening ever.

“When I finished work I went straight home and hid the scratch card under my pillow while I tried to get some sleep.”

Mr Krok, who also works as a hotel porter, said he would be treating his family to some presents with the cash, especially his mum.

He said: “This win will bring so much security and peace of mind to my family. I live with my mum at the moment and she will also benefit – both financially but also with a trip to Dubai.

“I want to spoil her for once! And I have a five-year-old son whose future will be that bit brighter thanks to this win.”

One of the first things on Mr Krok’s shopping list is a new home, something he said used to seem impossible.

He said: “I shall be paying off my car loan and then hitting the local estate agents. Being able to buy my own home was once the stuff of dreams and now I’m actually going to be able to fulfil that dream. It’s awesome.”
