Ebbsfleet had captain Paul Lorraine dismissed in their 1-0 FA Trophy home defeat by Hereford.

Fleet had control of Saturday’s first-round tie at Stonebridge Road until a spat between Lorraine, pictured, and Kyle Perry led to a straight red card for the Fleet skipper midway through the second half.

Hereford went on to score the only goal on 72 minutes when Phil Walsh was dispossessed 30 yards out and the ball found John O’Keefe, whose strike from the edge of the area beat Preston Edwards.

Liam Enver Marum fired over from 10 yards as Fleet missed the chance to take an early lead.

Hereford’s Luke Graham almost put through his own net at a corner but was saved by the post, while Fleet’s Matt Godden hit the woodwork from a Lanre Azeez cross with the tie still goalless.
