Finalists chosen for Ebbsfleet design prize

Five finalists have been chosen for the Ebbsfleet international design competition.

Set up in March by the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and the NHS, the competition aims to find the best creative and inspiring ideas to help shape the landscape of the first new Garden City and the largest Healthy New Town being developed in the UK.

The Healthy New Towns programme, established by NHS England along with Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning Group, aims to ensure Ebbsfleet is a happy, healthy place to live and work.

The shortlist of the winning ideas was announced at the Housing Design Awards 2018 on Monday as part of a special seminar organised by the NHS.

Selected by a panel of 10 judges the five winners that have been chosen are The Chalk Walk by Additive Urbanism, a landscape deign studio led by Matthew Halsall, who have worked in collaboration with Ryan Szyani.

The design focuses on using nature to form an educational wildlife trail that would be the called the Chalk Walk.

The circular walking route would be created around the sites landscape with a series of vertical gardens built into chalk.

The second design to be chosen was The Ebbsfleet Sublime.

This is by LDA Design, Architecture 00 and Vivid Economics.

Everyday Adventure by Huskisson Brown Associates envisages green routes that would help promote walking and exercise as a preferred choice of travel.

HALO by Bradley Murphy Design suggests using social hubs, an interactive people highway and focal points for food production.

While Swanscombe Gorge Park by Chris Blandford Associates hopes to regenerate the existing natural landscape.

It also aims to create cultural and recreation activities.

The winning design will be announced at the on September, 6.
