A derelict building on fire in The Avenue was tackled by 15 firefighters last night

A derelict building on fire was tackled by 15 firefighters last night.

It happened on The Avenue at 6pm.

The fire was in the basement of a three-storey building, believed to be the Ingress Abbey Gatehouse.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a jet, hosereel and hydrant to tackle the fire.

The crews were there for 25 minutes.

Earlier in the day, fire crews were called to a block of flats after fire broke out in an electrical cupboard in the stairwell.

Crews ventilated the property using a fan.

The fire destroyed the unit but there were no reports of any injuries.
