Fire in Gravesend

Police are appealing for witnesses after a blaze which gutted a building in Gravesend.

Around 30 firefighters tackled the fire in Wrotham Road after they were called out at 9.25pm on Wednesday.

It is believed the fire took place in an office above Start To Finish, a builders' merchants. Police are treating it as suspicious.

Two units from Thames-side, one from Swanscombe and one from Strood were called to a first floor office which was alight.

Two support vehicles from Maidstone also attended as firefighters used breathing apparatus to put out the blaze.

Detective constable Kerry Thompson, of the area crime unit, said: "The fire started on the first floor of a building in Wrotham Road and has caused considerable damage to an office, which is located above a shop.

"I would like to speak with anyone that may have information about this incident, or who may have been in the area at around the time fire started and may have seen something that could help with our investigations.

"The road was particularly busy that night and someone may have seen something suspicious."

Anyone with information can contact DC Kerry Thompson at Kent Police on telephone 01622 690690 and quote crime reference AY/12996/11.
