Supporters of a little girl battling cancer have vowed to march on our nation’s capital if they can get 10,000 people to sign their petition.

Campaigners for the Stacey Mowle Appeal are planning to walk from Gravesend to Downing Street to raise awareness of their cause.

They want 10,000 people to show their support by adding their names to an awareness petition, which they will then carry to London.

Seven-year-old Stacey, of Trafalgar Road, Gravesend, suffers from a rare cancer called neuroblastoma and her family is hoping to send her to America for specialist treatment – but it will cost £500,000.

The walk’s route is yet to be planned but the appeal members, led by Stacey’s family, are hoping to descend on the city wearing their Stacey Mowle Appeal t-shirts, gaining vital press coverage in the process.

The petition will be handed to government officials by the family when they reach Downing Street and although campaigners are not expecting any MPs to get involved in the appeal, they hope more people will get to know about Stacey’s story.

Hundreds of people turned up to the Conga for Stacey at Gravesend Rugby Football Club, in Donald Biggs Drive, Gravesend, on August 4 and there have been many more fund-raisers each playing a part in spreading the message.

Campaigner and friend of the Mowle family, Steve Nash, says that thanks to their new Twitter campaign the appeal’s reach has stretched even further.

People are being asked to post #Tweet4Stace at arranged times to get it trending on the social media site.

Mr Nash said: “It’s great the amount of attention the appeal has got in general, not just in Gravesend.

“We’ve so many people supporting us. A man called Stacey Manwill did a 100 mile cycle raising £3,000 and there was even a kick-ball game organised by the Charles Wright Academy in Washington DC, that raised $3,500.

“It’s all from people finding out on Twitter about the appeal. It’s not just going around Gravesend now, it’s going world wide.”

Mr Nash said the Mowle family were impressed with the effort people have put into the campaign but everyone is especially excited about the latest celebrity addition to the Stacey team.

He said: “They’ve been taken aback by it all. They’re grateful to anyone who spends any time and any money on the appeal.

“We’ve just secured a new patron in Cheryl Baker, so we’re extremely happy about that.

“Alongside Joe Pasquale it’s great to have such household names spread the word about the appeal.”
