Gravesend pupil James works his socks off to help Kent's homeless

A thoughtful pupil has inspired his school to support a host of homeless charities.

James Long, 10, of St Joseph’s Preparatory School in Gravesend got involved in Swanstaff Recruitment’s ‘socks for the homeless appeal’ after learning about it on social media.

He and his classmates collected 216 pairs.

The socks will be donated to charities across Kent, including Catching Lives in Medway and the Canterbury Outreach Project. James’ hard work was recognised at school on Friday, when Swanstaff presented him with a thank-you gift.

“I thought it was a really important cause to help the homeless and make sure they stay warm in winter,” said James. “I’m so glad my friends all joined in too.”

Ellie Lewis, from Swanstaff, said: “James’s passion was great to see, and we are delighted with the results. All of the students have done so well.”
