Dartford and Gravesham set for St George's Day celebrations with hundreds taking part in parades through the town

Hundreds of children will march together in parades to celebrate all things English on St George’s Day.

Colourful and cultural festivities in Gravesend and Dartford will take place today with a wide range of things to see and do.

A parade featuring children from schools across Gravesham will start at St George’s Church in Church Walk, Gravesend, at 10am and will make its way through the town centre.

Court jesters, morris dancers, music and other traditions are among the activities.

In Dartford, people can enjoy a similar parade which includes a town crier, brass band and morris dancers at Central Park from 12.30pm.

For those who want to celebrate the day of our patron saint with a pint and a bite to eat, the George Inn in Wrotham Road, Meopham, is decked with flags and serving English fare such as pie and mash and jellied eels.

There will also be a performance from Vic Cracknell, who is known for being able to play 300 songs from the 1950s to the present day.
