A man has been arrested on suspicion of trapping wild birds.

Officers from the Kent Police Rural Partnership, together with the RSPCA, carried out a warrant in Waterdales, Northfleet, after it was believed wild birds were being intentionally trapped using live goldfinches (similar to the one pictured right) as decoys.

A 48-year-old man was arrested there on suspicion of wildlife offences, theft by finding and possessing ammunition without a certificate.

Items, including wild birds and trapping equipment, were said to have been seized from the address.

He has since been bailed until April 8.

PC Steven Coveney said: "Trapping wild birds and the trade of illegally captured wild birds without regard to regulation is an extremely serious offence.

"It can cause distress, injuries and death to the birds when done without professional knowledge or equipment."
