Fire crews from Thames-side and Dartford tackle flat blaze in York Road, Gravesend

A man was rescued from a flat fire in Gravesend in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus battled flames to get the occupant out of the ground floor apartment in York Road.

The man, who suffered smoke inhalation, was treated at the scene.

Two crews from Thames-side and one from Dartford were called out at about 1.40am and spent two hours getting the blaze under control.

The flat was severely damaged. The cause is as yet unknown.
