Ronnie Smith, also known as Ronnie Vine, named as Gravesend murder victim

Police have confirmed the name of a man murdered over the weekend.

Ronnie Smith was initially named as the victim at a court hearing for suspect Joe Chuter yesterday but police have now confirmed that information and added that he also went by the name Ronnie Vine.

The 31-year-old, who is believed to have lived in Gravesend but has links to Cranbrook, died at King's College Hospital on Sunday morning after an altercation at a house in Taunton Vale, Gravesend, the evening before.

He was discovered with severe head and stomach injuries in St Patrick's Gardens just before 8pm on Saturday after fleeing Taunton Vale in a car.

Chuter, 28, of Taunton Vale, appeared via video link at Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was remanded to appear at Maidstone Crown Court tomorrow.

A post-mortem has been carried out but the results of which are not being released by police.
