A police community support officer suffered a fractured elbow after a motorist he was talking to allegedly sped off from the scene.

Kent Police is appealing for witnesses to the incident, which is said to have happened at about 8.20pm on Friday, November 15, in a car park at Clarence Row, Gravesend.

It is believed the officer approached the vehicle and began speaking to the driver of a silver Ford Fiesta as it sat in a car park with the car’s interior light switching on and off.

Without warning, the driver started the engine and reversed the car at speed, causing the wing mirror to collide with the officer.

The car then sped off and the officer had to go to hospital to have treatment.

Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis, grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.

The 24-year-old from Gravesend was bailed after questioning until January 20, pending further enquiries.

Kent Police would like anyone who saw the incident or who has any information about it to call 01474 366088.
