Fire crews called to Dering Way, Gravesend to rubbish and building material fire

Firefighters spent nearly three hours fighting a rubbish fire in Gravesend.

Crews were called at 12.45pm this afternoon to Dering Way.

Police were also at the scene.

A spokesman said: "Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet and cold cutting equipment to tackle the fire involving a large quantity of building material and rubbish.

"Local residents are asked to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution, due to the large smoke plume."

Crews are understood to have left the scene just before 4pm.
