House of Fraser at Bluewater evacuated after flooding

One of the biggest stores at Bluewater shopping centre has been evacuated.

Shoppers and staff were rushed out of House of Fraser this afternoon and the shutters have been closed on the shop. The upper level of the store reopened at 3.30pm.

One shopper, who did not wish to be named, said he had been told it was because of concerns about flooding as there is water in the ceiling of the store.

Lesley Miller tweeted "Just been evacuated from House of Fraser whilst at Bluewater" and another shopper, Sue Nye, tweeted that it was due to "unforeseen circumstances".

A spokesman for House of Fraser has confirmed on twitter that the store was closed due to flooding.

A spokesman for Bluewater Shopping Centre said: "Due to a water leak at House Of Fraser, the store is currently closed and will remain so for the rest of the day.

"The leak has been isolated to reduce further flooding and we have a team on site working to investigate and fix the issue."

At 3.30pm, she added: "Following further investigation of the earlier leak at House of Fraser, we can confirm the upper level of the store is now open for trading."
