Gravesend charity Stacey's Smiles collecting 500 Easter Eggs

A charity is hoping to deliver 500 Easter eggs and spread some cheer in memory of a young girl who died after bravely battling cancer.

Stacey Mowle, of Trafalgar Road, Gravesend, was just nine when she lost her five-year fight with neuroblastoma in March 2015.

Family and friends had been raising money to send her to the United States for treatment, and after her death that appeal became her legacy.

Stacey’s Smiles has been running since April 2016, and so far 20 “smiles” have been organised for children with cancer and their families.

Charity trustee and family friend Steve Nash said: “These “smiles” have included trips to Legoland, Windsor, Harrods for a Princess Frozen Makeover, arranging for Boogie Storm (Britain’s Got Talent Finalists) to visit a young lad’s birthday party, organising a fantastic children’s day at The Royal Marsden Hospital, Surrey, and the delivery of many “boxes of smiles” to the Marsden, where Stacey was treated.

“We also have a fantastic caravan at a 5 star resort in Battle, Sussex, where families can stay to get away from home and hospital four walls.”

Now, supporters want to spread even more smiles and on Monday, April 10 trustees and a large Easter Bunny mascot will deliver an expected 500 Easter eggs to children at The Royal Marsden, and their brothers and sisters.

The Easter eggs are being collected by Toby Carvery in Gravesend.

Neuroblastoma is one of the most common childhood cancers, with 100 UK cases every year. Half of those occur in children under two.

Stacey’s Smiles was set up by her parents Warren and Samantha Mowle, to help other children with cancer and their families.

One thing Warren and Samantha could rarely do with Stacey was organise treats for her as there was no money left after care and treatment costs.

Patrons include Harry Redknapp, Linda Robson, Cheryl Baker, Louis Tomlinson and Joe Pasquale.
