Man injured as car crashes into car park at Aldi supermarket in Northfleet, and ends up on its side

A young motorist suffered serious leg injuries when his car left the road, crashed into a wall and railings and ended up on its side in a supermarket car park.

The emergency services were called to the Aldi supermarket in London Road, Northfleet, shortly after 11.30pm last night and found a silver Ford Focus with five people inside on it side.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were called to the scene and helped get the four passengers and the driver out of the car.

It is understood the driver, a man in his 20s suffered serious leg injuries as a result of the smash and one passenger may have suffered a broken arm.

The Kent Air Ambulance crew were called to the scene and helped treat the driver before he was taken to a London hospital.

The collision knocked down a wall and railings as well as several bollards in the supermarket car par.

It is not known how the accident happened, but it is believed the driver swerved to avoid a pedestrian in the road.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police spokesman James Walker, said: "Kent Police was called to a single vehicle collision in London Road, Gravesend, at 11.36pm.

"Officers attended the scene, as did crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, and a man was taken to a London Hospital for treatment to leg injuries.

"Inquiries into the cause of the collision are ongoing."
