Thieves target Kesson House Care Home, Northfleet, which caters for people with dementia

Dementia sufferers have been left upset after garden ornaments at their care home were stolen.

Lights and colourful windmills were ripped out of the front garden of Kesson House in Council Avenue, Northfleet, towards the end of last week.

Elderly residents used to love looking at the display and it was while out with deputy manager Jackie Catley on Friday that one woman noticed the items were missing.

Mrs Catley said the entire incident had left a bad taste in her mouth. She said: “Residents used to really like looking at the lights and now someone has come along and pinched them. It just leaves you disappointed in people.

“The fact the residents have dementia means they really enjoy anything stimulating like that and one woman was particularly upset by it. I just don’t understand why anyone would do that.

“They were only worth about £50 but it’s the principle. That money came out of the residents’ fund. These things weren’t for the staff, it’s for the people that live here.” Posting on Facebook Leanne Goodyale, who also works at the home, said: “Some people have no morals.

“We have a little flower bed out the front of our care home and stolen from it were all the solar lights and windmills. I work with vulnerable elderly people who have dementia and they loved looking at the lights sparkle at night.

“People who can steal and deprive people with this condition are the lowest.”

Mrs Catley said: “While we’re not asking for donations of course if anyone does have any items that might help restore this area they would be greatly appreciated.”
