Travellers in Gravesend ignore request to leave Cascades Leisure Centre car park

Travellers who were given a deadline of 10am today to leave the car park they have set up camp in are still there.

Car parking bays have been taken up by six caravans outside Cascades Leisure Centre, in Thong Lane, Gravesend, after they arrived on the site at 5pm on Monday.

Gravesham council has applied to Medway Magistrates' Court for a summons for a hearing where it would request a court order requiring the travellers to leave and authorizing the council to take any reasonably necessary steps to ensure compliance.

The travellers were spotted on Monday evening.
