Driver held after woman cut free by firefighters following a six vehicle crash on the A2 near Northfleet

A 45-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and assault after a six-car crash on the A2 yesterday.

A woman had to be rescued from the crash on the London bound carriageway between the Northfleet and Pepperhill junctions just after 6pm.

Three fire engines, South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Highways Agency were called to the scene.

Firefighters managed to stabilise the vehicle so paramedics could treat the casualty before cutting her free - it is not clear how serious her injuries are.

There are reports of two others being hurt, but there are no more details.

A man has now been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and assault.
