Jenson Button could drive for Mercedes when DTM returns to Brands Hatch in August

Former F1 driver and commentator David Coulthard is trying to convince ex-world champion Jenson Button to race at Brands Hatch next month.

There are rumours that Button, who won the Formula One crown in 2009, could drive for Mercedes when the DTM German touring car series returns to the circuit after a five-year absence.

Coulthard, who raced for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull in his career, has previously raced in the event at Brands.

Speaking exclusively to KentOnline, he said: "I’d love to see him (Button) involved.

"I actually sent him a message this morning asking him what part of the world he’s in because he’s living in LA and commuting from there to Japan where he’s racing in Super GT - which is their equivalent of DTM.

"I think it would be great and I’m trying to track him down to know whether that can come together or not.

"I think it would be a great draw for the crowd.

"He’s entered touring cars, he’s lying second in the Japanese Championship, he’s a had a few podiums and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he could come to Brands and pull off a shock win."

Tickets for the DTM at Brands Hatch, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday August 11 to 12, are available at https://brandshatch.msv.com/BH-18-DTM.
