Two more goals from Billy Bricknell helped Ebbsfleet to a comfortable win over Erith & Belvedere on Tuesday night.

Bricknell, one of the Fleet's summer signings from Dover, has now scored five times in his last four outings and he looks in good nick ahead of the new Skrill South season.

He was involved in the opener on 18 minutes, hustling his defender and forcing a mistake. The ball dropped to Anthony Cook, who finished with aplomb from 12 yards.

Cook was brought to the club as a winger but he deputised up front in the absence of Ben May and Michael Thalassitis. A back injury meant May watched from the stands, while Stevenage loanee Thalassitis was away on international duty with the Cyprus under-21s.

Meanwhile, trialist Dominic Green gave the Deres plenty of problems down the Ebbsfleet right. The former Dagenham & Redbridge man is on trial at Stonebridge Road and he would have caught the eye of any other scouts with this display. Green delivered several tempting crosses but neither Cook or Shane Huke could divert them into the net.

At the other end, the visitors' best moment came when Danny Willis saw his shot deflected onto the post. Former Fleet defender Aiden Sherlock blazed the rebound over.

Stacy Long had a shot saved by Jack Bradshaw moments before Bricknell made it 2-0. On the stroke of half-time, Daryl McMahon's shot glanced off the crossbar and Bricknell tapped home from close-range.

Bricknell's second goal, on 54 minutes, was one to savour. He timed his run perfectly to beat the Deres offside trap and sent an equally precise lob sailing over Bradshaw's head.

Ebbsfleet began to play with more zip from this point, with McMahon pulling the strings in central midfield. His flicks and tricks bamboozled the visitors, although he will not be afforded so much time on the ball when league action resumes on August 17.

There is substance to go with McMahon's style, though. He thundered a superb shot towards the top corner and only a combination of post and bar saved the Deres. The ball crashed down and bounced to safety.

George Benner pulled a goal back for Erith & Belvedere when he turned a left-wing cross past Preston Edwards from inside the six-yard box.

Fleet boss Steve Brown said: "I hate conceding goals and I hope the players hate conceding goals because it was a poor goal to give away. It was from our throw-in, which should never happen.

"That was the disappointing aspect but there were some real positive performances and I thought we could have had five or six. It was the work-rate and the commitment from the players, it looked like a proper performance from start to finish.

"We passed it well, I thought the tempo was higher, I thought we moved the ball well. I thought there were some great runs from our forward players and I thought we created a lot of opportunities as well. I’m really pleased with the overall performance and I thought Erith were a lot livelier than our last two opponents (Charlton and Gillingham)."

Chris Sessegnon came on for the last 30 minutes but the former Dover winger had few opportunities to impress as he looks for a new club.
