Steve Brown has admitted it was a mistake to refuse Chris Kinnear's handshake.

The rival managers clashed in the tunnel at Stonebridge Road after Dover claimed a 2-0 win against Ebbsfleet last December.

Brown, who was sacked by the Fleet last month, worked under Kinnear at Dover for the latter part of the 2012-13 season before quitting Crabble to take his first management job.

Kinnear offered to shake hands after the derby but a furious Brown wasn't having any of it.

Asked if he now regretted the incident, Brown said: "I do a little bit, yeah. I let personal feelings from a personal situation come out after a poor result.

"You’re only a fool if you don’t learn from the mistakes you make.

"I don’t think you saw an outburst before that, like that, and I don’t think you’ve seen an outburst like that after. But to let personal feelings come out after a game was the wrong thing to do.

"But you’re a human being and sometimes emotions run away with you. On that particular occasion, my emotions ran away with me.

"Nobody will know exactly what went on down there and I’ve got no desire to put my side across because it’s just another reason to get peppered and shot at. But that was a mistake, no two ways about it. It was a mistake and if I re-ran my time, I would shake his hand and move on, like I did after the play-off final.

"If you said to me ‘would you change anything?’ that’s probably the one thing I would not do.

"At the time, it just came out because I was upset, because things that were done to me at Dover were not right. They were not good footballing things to do to another member of staff.

"But that shouldn’t have come out in the public domain."
