Ebbsfleet United sign Dagenham and Redbridge's former Luton Town midfielder Jake Howells

Ebbsfleet United have signed Dagenham & Redbridge utility man Jake Howells.

The 25-year-old, who can play either in defence or midfield, has moved to Stonebridge Road on a month's loan and will be available until the fixture at Margate on Easter Monday.

Fleet boss Daryl McMahon says Howells' versatility makes him a useful player to have around the squad.

McMahon, whose side are second in Vanarama National League South, told FleetOnline: “Jake can play full back, left midfield and centre midfield, he’s a good age and comes with a really impressive pedigree.

"He was at Dagenham and I spoke to (manager) John Still about him and with the situation we’re in with a couple of injury doubts, I thought he’d be a good one to bring in.”

Howells made his name at Luton Town, where he amassed 300 appearances in nine seasons for the Hatters.

He was part of the their Conference winning squad, under John Still in 2014 and the pair were reunited at Dagenham in January, when Howells signed an 18-month contract.

He also had a spell at Eastleigh where he played alongside Fleet's Andy Drury.
