Ebbsfleet are playing catch-up in the race for the play-offs and manager Jamie Day has told his players how many wins they need to finish in the top five.

Day’s side are eighth in Vanarama Conference South, four points below the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s game away to sixth-placed Gosport.

A victory in Hampshire would take Fleet level on points with last season’s FA Trophy finalists and edge them closer to Day’s win total.

Day said: "It’s a massive game. We’d like to have a few more points and be in a better position but we are where we are in the league.

"Since I’ve been here, we’ve not won enough of them, so it’s a big game.

"We need to get a good amount of wins out of the 15 games we’ve got. There’s a number that we need to reach and hopefully we’ll get that."

So what is that number?

"It’s above 10," Day said. "We need to get above that number to get into the play-offs and if we don’t, we’re going to make it difficult for ourselves.

"It’s not about being gung-ho and just going to attack – we need to show the same sort of effort and desire, defensively, that we did at Braintree on Tuesday.

"Hopefully we’ve got enough quality going forward to get goals and get the wins that we require. At this stage, draws and losses are not what we want so we need to get to that number that we’ve said to the boys this week."
