Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon delighted fans will see League 1 quality up close when Doncaster visit in FA Cup

Manager Daryl McMahon says Ebbsfleet’s FA Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers will be a game for the club’s loyal supporters.

The League 1 side are coming to Stonebridge Road next month in one of the ties of the first round after Fleet saw off East Thurrock in a replay.

It’s 14 years since the club, who were then Gravesend & Northfleet, faced Football League opposition on their own ground (Notts County in 2003/04), so it should be quite an occasion when Darren Ferguson brings his team to town.

McMahon said: “It’s brilliant. We haven’t been in the first round for five years and it’s great for the fans and the club to have that exposure.

“It’s a game for the fans. You’re playing against a League 1 team.

“The fans who came on Saturday were unbelievable and the performance we gave didn’t warrant what we had on the terraces.

“We got the result on Tuesday to give them that game against Doncaster and hopefully we can do well then.

“I’m looking forward to it but it’s a few weeks away and we’ve got plenty of league games in between.”

The first of those is on Saturday against a Barrow side already looking for their third manager of the season.

Bluebirds fired Micky Moore after their FA Cup exit at Shaw Lane on Sunday – just two months after he stepped up from assistant manager to replace Paul Cox.

“Too many people get sacked too quickly,” McMahon said. “It’s just the way it is in football at the minute and it’s wrong.

“The only club in the country to maintain long-term success, changing managers, is Chelsea but for everyone else, it hasn’t worked out.

“You expect a reaction when you change the manager, that normally happens, but we’ve got to just worry about ourselves, make sure we perform and work hard.

“They’re coming to our ground and we’ll look to back up Tuesday’s performance.”

Ebbsfleet are 14th in the National League, although just three points outside the play-offs, with another home game against struggling Torquay to come on Tuesday.

McMahon said: “In the last five league games we’ve taken 10 points, two points a game, which is excellent.

“Hopefully, we can build on that and keep it going for the rest of the season.”

Marvin McCoy could return to the squad on Saturday but Dave Winfield, Darren McQueen, Jack Payne and Bradley Bubb all remain sidelined.
