Ebbsfleet United players in charity game to raise money for Grenfell Tower victims

Three Ebbsfleet players have joined forces to raise money for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

Anthony Cook, Marvin McCoy and Darren McQueen played in a charity game on Friday organised by fellow footballers Marvin Morgan and James Mulley.

Donations of almost £5,000 have already come in and London-born Cook is glad to have played a small part in helping those affected by the disaster.

He said: "A lot of people who aren’t involved in football like to speak bad about football but when something like this happens, when you play football, you feel like you can do something.

"You try because every little does help. It will help those families.

"I can’t believe, that in 2017, these things are still happening. They shouldn’t be happening.

"There should be something put in place, especially buildings like that, where if there is a fire, it’s limited to one flat.

"I’m surprised there’s no emergency exits, not even stairs down the side of the building. To see that tragedy happen is heartbreaking.

"There’s a lot of questions that need to be answered. It’s a shame, so many people losing their lives or losing their homes, everything they’ve got.

"When you feel like you can do something you will try.

"Lots of people wanted to get involved and it got a lot of coverage. When you see things like this happen, the whole of humanity comes together and that’s what everyone tried to do."
