Ebbsfleet manager Daryl McMahon on Sam Deering's goal from the halfway line against St Albans City

Fleet manager Daryl McMahon praised two-goal midfielder Sam Deering after he ran the show against St Albans on Saturday.

Deering was at the heart of an impressive Fleet performance as they put third-placed St Albans to the sword - racing into a 3-0 lead inside 22 minutes.

The 25-year-old midfielder opened the scoring with an audacious goal from the halfway line after just eight seconds.

"He has goals in him and I've been on at him to score more goals but I didn't mean from our half!" said McMahon.

"It was a great bit of skill. Hats off to Sam to spot him off his line first of all and to have the quality to score is an outstanding goal.

"He is really enjoying his football at the minute, he has been outstanding for us and is a terrific player."

Fleet's other two goals were not bad, either, as Darren McQueen and then Deering again ran riot for the home side.

McMahon added: "Stuart did great to nick the ball back for Darren McQueen's goal and slipped him in. Then there was a good bit of play by Deering for his other goal.

"We had plenty of chances, I just thought we could have moved it a bit quicker. But sometimes as a player you have that mentality as well that it's already won. You might not mean to do but you do take your foot off the gas.

"We want it to be a hard place to come where no-one wants to come here and when we play like that and start that quick then we are hard to play against. We want to keep that going."

The Fleet are up to fourth in the table, still seven points adrift of leaders Maidenhead.
