Boss Steve Brown believes Ebbsfleet and Gillingham could meet in the Football League one day.

Fleet host League 1 Gills in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday (3pm).

Brown expects Fleet to be a League 2 team inside five years and, long-term, feels they are capable of joining the likes of Gills in League 1.

He said: “It will take an extremely long time but the club can definitely reach League 1.

“With the ambition of the owner and the financial backing to develop the ground, this club could absolutely do a Crawley and reach League 1 but I don’t believe it’s going to happen quickly.

“I do believe 100% that Fleet supporters will have a League 2 club inside five years.

“There does need to be a promotion in the next year or so but this squad is in a very good place to give it a go.

“Two promotions in five years to reach League 2 is still difficult but momentum is a wonderful thing.”
