New signing Ebou Adams confident Ebbsfleet United can challenge for promotion

Ebou Adams believes he could win the National League with Ebbsfleet United next season.

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed for Fleet after two-and-a-half years with Norwich City.

Adams, who came through Dartford's academy, finished 2017-18 on loan at Leyton Orient and had the chance to move there permanently but chose instead to return to Kent after agreeing terms with Daryl McMahon.

Fleet reached the play-off semi-finals after finishing sixth in their first season back in the division.

Asked what his expectations were for the new campaign, Adams said: "Hopefully the same and probably even one step further, actually going for the title.

"That helps me towards my ambition of playing in the Football League and they have the same ambition. It works both ways.

"I liked the way Ebbsfleet played last year, how they progressed and got themselves into the play-offs. They did really well.

"What they did last season was massive. Maybe if they hadn't gone to extra time twice (in the play-offs), it wouldn't have hit them as much (in the semi-final at Tranmere) but it's a young team and a club on the up.

"They never lie down, never give up and that's the same attitude I have. That's the type of manager you want to play for, someone whose team puts everything on the line.

"They're a progressing team and what they did last season put that team on the map.

"Daryl's a manager everyone wants to play under and luckily for me, I get a chance to do it."

Adams turned down more money at Orient to sign for Fleet, thanking McMahon for his patience as he weighed up his options.

He said: "I still need to prove myself and hopefully Ebbsfleet is the place to do that.

"I can't wait to meet the lads because they're young and ambitious. It's a team you want to join and I can't wait to get going.

"The more games you play, the better player you become. It's been tough not having a full season of playing first-team football but I've learnt from Shrewsbury (on loan) and Norwich.

"Now I'm coming into a full season, hopefully I can get a lot of games under my belt and get better and better. I'll get my head down and keep working hard.

"There were quite a few clubs who came in but Ebbsfleet and Leyton Orient were the main ones.

"Financially, Leyton Orient offered me the better deal and it wasn't an easy decision but Ebbsfleet showed more patience."
