Havant & Waterlooville 1 Ebbsfleet United 4 match report

Ebbsfleet have gone six points clear at the top of Vanarama National League South with a game in hand.

They recorded their ninth win of the season on Saturday away to a Havant & Waterlooville side who were being widely tipped for promotion during pre-season.

Daryl McMahon's side have now taken 28 of a possible 30 points this season, which is the best record anywhere in the top seven divisions of English football.

Fleet took the lead midway through the first half, Matt Godden heading in from a corner.

That's how it stayed until half-time but Jordan Parkes struck early in the second period to double the visitors' lead with his eighth goal in 10 games.

Ebbsfleet kept up the pressure and Godden scored again after Parkes had seen his shot saved.

Hawks did pull one back through Matt Paterson but this was Ebbsfleet's day and substitute Danny Haynes rounded things off by beating two defenders and slotting home for 4-1 late on.

Fleet can tighten their grip on top spot even further on Tuesday night when they play their game in hand - at home to Weston-super-Mare. Entry is free after the first meeting between the clubs was abandoned last month because of floodlight failure.
