On-loan Ebbsfleet United keeper Jon Miles could play for Margate against Maidenhead United

Jon Miles could win the title for Ebbsfleet this weekend – without playing a single league game for them.

The Fleet goalkeeper is on loan at Margate, who play leaders Maidenhead on the final day at Hartsdown Park.

If the Magpies fail to win in Thanet and Ebbsfleet beat Oxford City, Miles’ parent club will be champions of National League South.

Miles has played second fiddle to Nathan Ashmore all season and this loan spell is his third of the campaign after moves to Concord and Gosport.

The 24-year-old knows a clean sheet could turn the whole season upside down – if he’s picked.

Ineligible to play against Ebbsfleet on Easter Monday, Miles was replaced for that game by Valery Pajetat – who stayed in for Margate’s trip to Oxford City last weekend.

Blues boss Steve Watt said: "I know the added bonus of having Jon available and ready to play when a good performance from him could make his own club win the league.

"I’ve got that to take into consideration this week. It definitely enters my thoughts.

"I felt Valery did well against Ebbsfleet and I hadn’t given Valery a chance since I’ve been in. I didn’t think it would be fair on him if I took him straight back out again.

"I’m very much a person that if you get the shirt, you keep it. Valery did that against Ebbsfleet.

"That’s the reason Jon didn’t play on Saturday because I felt Val deserved his chance.

"But it’s not as straightforward as leaving Val in because of that situation with Jon being at Ebbsfleet, giving him a little bit of extra motivation."

Since joining Fleet from Tottenham in June 2015, Miles has made seven starts – all in cup competitions.
