Basingstoke Town 1 Ebbsfleet United 0 match report

Ebbsfleet are now without a victory or a goal in their last three Vanarama Conference South matches.

The Fleet slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Basingstoke Town on Saturday and sit 10th in the league table after drawing another blank.

The Fleet, who paired Billy Bricknell and Matty Godden in attack with Charlie Sheringham on the bench, hit the woodwork twice but were out of luck in front of goal.

Ebbsfleet started brightly but Basingstoke's Kay Gasson saw his header from a corner cleared off the line before Bricknell's header from Antony Cook's cross came back off the woodwork.

The only goal of the game arrived after 23 minutes when Shaun McAuley's long-range free-kick proved too good for keeper Preston Edwards.

Former Fleet man Liam Enver-Marum should have added a second but he put his close-range effort wide of the upright.

After the break, Daryl McMahon was denied by the woodwork with 20 minutes left and Cook went close late on but Basingstoke held firm.

Ebbsfleet: Edwards, Sessegnon (Huke 63mins), Howe, McMahon, Acheampong, Clark, Johnson, Fraser (Sheringham 75mins), Bricknell, Godden, Cook. Subs not used: Hall, Rance, Osborn.
