Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon says money is no longer the motivation for players to join Ebbsfleet United

Daryl McMahon believes players are now coming to Ebbsfleet for "the right reasons" after abolishing what he described as a "gravy-train mentality" last summer.

During his first year in charge at Stonebridge Road, the 32-year-old worked hard to address what he felt was an unhealthy culture among the playing squad.

McMahon feels progress has been made on this front.

He said: "Without a doubt it’s different. How hard people work and what the players go through, their commitment to the club is brilliant.

"It’s the type of people we recruit and they understand what they’re buying into. They’re buying into something to try to be successful. If you don’t work hard, you’re not going to be.

"There was a little bit of people thinking it was an easy way to drop down a couple of leagues to come to this club and earn some money.

"Now I think we’ve got people coming here for the right reasons."

New signings won’t be the only new faces in McMahon’s squad this season.

Some of Ebbsfleet’s youth players are set to feature more prominently, with defenders Ollie Boulding and Karn Miller-Neave both having travelled to Portugal with the first-team squad
for a training camp last week.

McMahon said: "Both players did well last year, but Ollie in particular came through and did terrific last week. He’s got the right credentials for me and the potential to be a very good player.

"He reminds me a lot of Lawrie Wilson, who I played with many years ago (at Stevenage)."
