Daryl McMahon pleased to see Ebbsfleet bounce back as squad players get their chance

Daryl McMahon admitted Ebbsfleet's 4-2 win over Harrow Borough was all about the result rather than performance.

Jack Powell scored one and had a part to play in two others as Fleet led 3-0 at half-time, before substitute Anthony Cook added the fourth with a second half penalty, Joshua Webb and skipper Marc Charles-Smith netting for Harrow.

Missing were defenders Dave Winfield and Mark Phillips both suspended, while McMahon included goalkeeper Jonathan Miles, new-boy Louis John - his first start on-loan from Sutton, and Marvin McCoy, with Nathan Ashmore, Danny Kedwell and Cook all on the bench.

McMahon said: "The boys who came in, needed to play, because they all train very well during the week, which nobody sees.

"We played some good stuff in patches, it was never going to be a complete performance with the amount of changes we made, and the personnel coming in, but we needed the win."

He demanded a response after gaining only one point from two home games against Maidenhead and Hampton.

"We made a terrific start, but probably took our foot off the gas a little bit, and allowed them back into the game, that might have been down to tiredness having played three games this week, and mentally feeling it was won.

"We needed a reaction and realisation - don't get me wrong I was very disappointed to only take one point, without a doubt I am, but we have won seven, drawn two and lost one in the last 10 games - I would take that run again in the next 10, and we would be much closer to the top of the table.

"We are in decent form and to bounce back and do what we did against Harrow was good, considering the players we had missing."

Powell was the inspiration behind Fleet's first half display, scoring a great free-kick with two assists.

McMahon said: "If anyone takes a better set-piece in non-league football I would be surprised.

"I think he has got 10 goals now, and with his assists, playing in the centre of the park, he is very potent in that area.

"He can be devastating, whether he is shooting or playing people in, and he normally makes the right choice."

The first round draw will be made on Monday.
