Ebbsfleet United striker Danny Kedwell defies sports science says boss Daryl McMahon

Daryl McMahon hailed Danny Kedwell's old-school mentality after he took his season's goal tally into double figures on Saturday.

Kedwell, 34, has been almost ever-present up front for Fleet in the National League and has led the line on his own for much of the season following the loss of Darren McQueen to injury.

He scored his 10th goal of the campaign in Saturday's 4-0 win over Guiseley and set up another for Myles Weston to add to his growing collection of assists.

Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon said: "He defies sports science, he defies the new age, he's just old-school.

"Strap him up, give him a painkiller and he goes out and he plays, no matter what's wrong with him. He's just one of those characters, he doesn't miss a day's training.

"He's been an absolute joy to manage. He never, ever lets you down.

"He might have a bad game but it won't be for the lack of effort and this season so far, he's been outstanding.

"He's still got half the season to go and that'll be the important thing. When you do get a little bit older, I think people do look for that second half of the season. Can you kick on through the winter months and come through it again?

"But I've got no doubt he will.

"The key thing for me with Keds is that when you see him every day, you get a different perspective from when you see him on a Saturday."

All over the pitch Fleet were too good for a big Guiseley side who rarely threatened to get back in the game once they'd fallen behind.

McMahon said: "Every team in this league is capable of beating people and we could have been turned over if we didn't take it seriously and understand the strengths and weaknesses of Guiseley.

"They were physical and direct but I trust Shields, Weston and Coulson. They're not going to win headers against those players but compete for second balls when they drop into the middle of the pitch and then be able to have the quality to put their foot on it and pass it through teams, which they did really well.

"They're evolving as players at this club and it was a good performance all round.

"It's good to get back-to-back wins at home and two clean sheets.

"We were very clinical in front of goal, defended pretty well and they didn't have a lot of chances."

The win lifted Ebbsfleet to within three places and four points of the play-offs.
