Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon on the 3-0 win over Wrexham

Daryl McMahon felt Ebbsfleet's demolition of Wrexham on Tuesday had been coming for a while.

Fleet came into the game unbeaten in eight matches and full of confidence.

And in the second half their attacking play was too good for a Red Dragons side now clinging onto a National League play-off place.

McMahon said: "I'm delighted for the players because in the last three games, they've been excellent.

"I felt we were on the cusp of really beating somebody. If you look at the amount of chances we had against Macclesfield and Dover, I felt someone would get beaten heavily.

"To go and beat a club the size of Wrexham here 3-0 speaks volumes for the players.

"We were fairly comfortable for the majority of the game. We defended well, passed it well and were more clinical in the second half."

Ebbsfleet are five points off the play-offs with two games in hand having picked up 21 of a possible 27 since February 10.

"We've been very good," McMahon said. "After back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Boreham Wood and Tranmere, we dug in to beat Solihull 1-0 and showed character because that was a tough game.

"We kicked on from there. Wins, draws, points on the board, goals and little bits of good performances give you confidence.

"There will be a time in these next few games when we play terribly and have to show character and dig in and do the basics well - because that's what winning teams do."

McMahon admitted there was still room for improvement, even after such a memorable night at Stonebridge Road.

He said: "In the first half we missed a couple when we didn't follow shots in which the keeper spilled.

"Tap-ins are the best goals. You anticipate something, move before somebody else and it looks easy on the telly when someone scores from a yard out but you've got to be thinking quicker than someone else.

"Little things like that, we could have done better, but I can't grumble because we've put a great performance in.

"In the second half we were really clinical.

"I was happy to get the clean sheet at half-time because I always felt we'd get stronger and we had a bench where we had somewhere to go to change the dynamic of the game to make it more difficult for Wrexham, which I thought we did in the second half.

"The pressure was on Wrexham. They're the side with something to lose, we've got nothing to lose and everything to gain in terms of reputation and performance and we did that."

McMahon again praised the supporters who, led by a rocking Plough End, roared Ebbsfleet on in a scintillating finale.

"The last three games have been at home against sides above us so the crowd are excited about that," McMahon said.

"But prior to that, we've had many games away from home; Halifax, Hartlepool and at Leyton Orient, the support was ridiculous. The number of fans we took was almost like a Championship away crowd.

"It's not lost on us as staff and players that the fans have backed us all season, home and away, but in the last three games we've seen great performances from the fans and the players."
