Ebbsfleet came from behind twice to secure a vital point away to Skrill South play-off hopefuls Bath on Tuesday night.

The excellent Andy Watkins scored a goal in each half for the home side but the Fleet showed great character to peg the hosts back on each occasion.

Goals from Billy Bricknell and Anthony Cook (pictured) extended their unbeaten run to six matches and ensured they maintained a six-point gap to Bath, who sit immediately below the play-off places.

The home side got an early foothold, with David Pratt heading a Jake Reid cross over the bar and the pair combining to good effect again moments later.

Dan Bull’s low shot was saved at the base of the post by Preston Edwards but the goalkeeper couldn’t do anything about the opening goal on 21 minutes. Watkins found the back of the net with a precise lob from just outside the box.

Ebbsfleet were on the back foot but they equalised against the run of play on the half-hour. Alex Osborn punished a slip by Jake Burnell by whipping in a cross which Bricknell converted with his left foot.

The hosts missed a great chance to go back in front at the start of the second half. Watkins pulled the ball back from the byline and Reid somehow missed the target from 10 yards out.

Bath keeper Jason Mellor denied Bricknell a second goal before the Romans did make it 2-1 on 61 minutes. A corner ran through the Fleet box and Watkins drove the ball past Edwards via the underside of the crossbar.

Ebbsfleet boss Steve Brown threw on Michael West for Daryl McMahon and he was rewarded with a second equaliser, 13 minutes from time. Ex-Fleet defender Phil Walsh committed a foul 10 yards outside the box and Cook stepped up to bend the free-kick beyond Mellor’s reach.
